TSO signs recording contract with Chandos Records

Chandos releases the TSO’s Sheherazade in August 2014

Toronto, July 15, 2014 – Chandos Records announced today that it has signed a new recording contract with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO). The first TSO recording released by Chandos will be Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherazade, recorded live at Roy Thomson Hall in June 2013, led by TSO Music Director Peter Oundjian and featuring TSO Concertmaster Jonathan Crow. Two further TSO recordings are planned by Chandos.

The TSO returns to Europe this summer with a festival tour

The six-concert schedule (August 15–24) includes performances at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Helsinki Music Centre, and Reykjavik’s Harpa Hall
Kick-off concert (August 12) at Koerner Hall presented by the Toronto Summer Music Festival
TORONTO, June 5, 2014 – The Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and Music Director Peter Oundjian culminate the 10th anniversary season of their partnership with a European festival tour (August 15–24). The six-concert schedule includes performances at Vienna’s Grafenegg Music Festival, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Germany’s Rheingau Musik Festival, Helsinki Music Centre, and Reykjavik’s Harpa Hall.  Joining the Orchestra are Canadian violinist James Ehnes and composer and clarinetist Jörg Widmann. The TSO makes its Koerner Hall début when the tour kicks off on August 12 at the Toronto Summer Music Festival.

The TSO Ends the 2013/2014 Season on a High Note!

June concerts feature solo performances by TSO musicians, soprano Sondra Radvanovsky, Luminato Festival events, a sizzling Beethoven performance by Yuja Wang, and the best of Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess

May 1, 2014 - In the final month of the 2013/2014 season, TSO musicians will claim the spotlight in an engaging Light Classics programme that includes the electrifying crescendo of Ravel’s famous Boléro and Brahms’s merry medley of German student songs. Led by RBC Resident Conductor Shalom Bard, Niccolò Paganini’s Sonata per la gran viola will provide the dazzling showpiece for Principal Viola Teng Li, while Principal Oboe Sarah Jeffrey will steal the spotlight in Calla Lilies by Canadian composer Marjan Mozetich.
