The tsoundcheck programme is one of the most successful audience development initiatives in performing arts. It was created in 2001 to encourage young people to experience orchestral music with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Concertgoers between the ages of 15 and 35 register online for a free tsoundcheck membership, and can purchase single TSO tickets for just $14 or sign up for a tsoundcheck 3-pack that includes 3 concert tickets and subscriber benefits, including ticket exchanges and discounts at local restaurants.
Over 20,000 tsoundcheck tickets are sold annually, and with 10% of tickets sold to tsoundcheck members, the TSO audience is one of the youngest and most diverse in classical music.
tsoundcheck has an active and passionate membership of students and young professionals. tsoundcheck volunteers assist with concerts, outreach activities, and special tsoundcheck events held each season. Not only is the programme an affordable way to attend the TSO, but tsoundcheck has also become a place for young music lovers to interact and socialize with each other, building a community of new symphony-goers. Twice a year, the TSO hosts tsoundcheck parties to thank these loyal patrons. Held in the lobby of Roy Thomson Hall following concerts, Toronto-area bands play while the audience mingles with TSO musicians and other patrons.
