Wendy Rose,
assistant principal second violin
Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1985, Wendy Rose first joined the TSO in 1981. Her early training included violin and piano lessons in her native Montreal, followed by university studies at the Juilliard School in NYC with Ivan Galamian and at the University of Toronto with Lorand Fenyves. After receiving her Bachelor of Music in Performance in 1978 as well as First Prize in the Remenyi Competition, Ms Rose spent several years playing in the Toronto Chamber Players and the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra.
Since joining the TSO, Ms Rose has been active in the studio music scene in Toronto, participating in the recording of countless film scores and albums. She has also played in several chamber music ensembles and is a very enthusiastic supporter of the Toronto Symphony’s education programmes. Of particular interest to her was the Toronto Symphony’s Early Years Programme, a two-year funded endeavour which sent various musicians to several day-care centres in the York Region to give specially-designed workshops to the children. She also enjoys teaching privately.
Wendy is married to Toronto recording engineer Gary Gray, producer and engineer of the TSO Live series of recordings, and has two sons, Daniel and Jonathan Gray. In her spare time, Wendy enjoys reading, psychoanalyzing her neurotic cat and indulging in her passion for chocolate.
