Hyung-Sun Paik, Violin
Hyung-Sun Paik has been a first violinist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1980. Before coming to Toronto, she played first violin in the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Ms Paik was born in Seoul, Korea and went to the United States at the age of 19 to study with Eudice Shapiro at the University of Southern California. Upon graduation from USC, she went to Indiana University and received her Master’s Degree in Music under the tutelage of the distinguished Professor Josef Gingold. While working on her Master’s degree, she was also an Associate Instructor of violin at Indiana University.

Ms Paik has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Korea, the United States, and Canada. Not only has she experienced success in her career as a soloist, symphony member, and chamber musician, but also as a private violin teacher. Ms Paik plays a rare violin by Petrus Guarnerius of Mantua, Italy made in 1693.

Ms Paik enjoys many physical activities such as walking, swimming, biking, and golfing. Her recently discovered love is to exercise on the treadmill watching Frasier videos. Aside from her love of music, she enjoys good food and good company. Ms Paik has two grown up children, Paul and Elise and a Yorkshire terrier, “Wolfy,” named after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
